We found a range of businesses in the aerospace oil and gas sectors that were interested in offshore wind but hadn’t managed to find ways in. We were able to short-cut this activity and provide information and contacts, thereby significantly reducing the barriers to exploration.
As the offshore wind started to grow, we could see that larger businesses from other sectors would be needed to bring scale and maturity to offshore wind. DECC (now BEIS) supported us in exploring possibilities.
We led significant outreach activities, including face-to-face dialogue with senior staff from businesses and presentation of offshore wind industry opportunities in journals and at conferences.
This led to a range of one-to-one meetings with key players, a number of which went on to explore the sector for themselves, and eventually get involved in this rapidly growing and increasingly global sector.
