This work enabled the ETI to make an initial estimate of the potential future demand for floating offshore wind in UK, including understanding the geographical areas most suited to floating wind.

We were asked to deliver this project as part of our long-term advisory role to the ETI.

We derived and compared spatial forecasts of levelised cost of energy wind farms with turbines on Pelastar tension-leg platform (TLP) floating foundations designed by The Glosten Associates and fixed (seabed mounted) foundations. We took into account a range of key parameters and considered wind farms with two different turbine sizes, looking at high resolution at the whole of the UK Renewable Energy Zone.

“We wanted an estimate of the potential impact of floating offshore wind, based on evidence from our projects. BVG Associates found a cost effective way to deliver it.”
