Scotland has a range of suppliers of innovative technology for the offshore wind industry. For many, the journey to commercialisation involves the step of live, on-turbine wind turbine testing which has frequently proved to be a barrier.
To help Scottish Enterprise to best support companies, we conducted analysis of the demand for and supply of live wind turbine testing opportunities in Scotland.
Following wide and deep engagement with industry, we reported key issues for suppliers to address in engaging with asset owners and presented a picture of the openness of both asset owners and wind turbine manufacturers to host a different range of tests.
During the work, we explored key bottlenecks and uncovered a range of specific opportunities that Scottish Enterprise has since chosen to explore further.
The work built on a previous needs and capability assessment relating to laboratory testing of components for Scottish Enterprise. Scotland has a significant network of such facilities.
