Our recommendations provided a set of clear and pragmatic pathways for The Newfoundland and Labrador Environmental Industry Association (NEIA) members to enter the offshore wind market in Europe, as a pre-cursor for entry into US markets.

Newfoundland and Labrador is home to a significant offshore oil and gas and fishing industries. Local firms in industries such as oil and gas, construction and marine services have the potential to serve the global offshore wind market. The question is how to penetrate and gain traction in a new and risk averse industry?

Most offshore wind supply chain activity is taking place in Europe. European decision makers are key for those wishing to enter global offshore wind supply chains, in terms of what they are looking for from their supply chains. European decision makers manage many of the major projects emerging worldwide. To capture these opportunities, Atlantic Canadian firms need strategic and targeted guidance to maximise opportunities and avoid wasted effort. They should also need to be aware of the opportunities opening in the Americas and the rest of the world.

NEIA asked us to provide that strategic and targeted guidance to five firms.

Lead by Andy Strowbridge, We partnered with Caron Hawco to add local knowledge and presence.

We carried out structured interviews and assessments with the five firms identified by NEIA. We identified a set of strategic opportunities and pathways for entry into the offshore wind market by NEIA members, depending on their competencies and level of ambition.

Each of the five companies received specific advice resulting from our assessments and therefore their best approach.

We also provided NEIA with regional strategy to provide guidance for all their members.

“BVG Associates were very helpful in assisting our organization in devising strategies for our members to engage in offshore wind energy industry supply chains.”
