Delivering change in wind farm asset management

Role: Senior Associate or Associate – Asset Management
Specialism: Wind Farm Technology and Operations
Location: Glasgow (City Centre)

We are looking for someone with the drive, experience, skills and knowledge to win, manage and deliver a range of technical and asset management services to both onshore and offshore wind farms. Wind farm asset management and related technical services form a core part of BVGA’s service offering. We deliver operational management and in-depth engineering reviews on behalf of wind farm owners, including wind farm life-extension analyses and wind turbine performance upgrade studies. This role is focussed on our core aim of improving the value of our clients’ projects.

You will:

  • Play a key day to day role in delivering wind farm asset management services to clients
  • Investigate wind farm performance issues and identify opportunities to improve project performance
  • Scope and deliver specific technical work for clients in relation to wind farm life extension and repowering opportunities
  • Support clients in maximising value and revenues from their onshore and offshore operational wind farm assets by deploying cutting-edge technology and applying best practice management methods
  • Provide independent expert advice to clients in the area of operational technology (SCADA systems, CMS, performance management software, data collection and instrumentation, wind lidar)
  • Undertake front-line client liaison and communication, delivering results and being a key point of contact for BVGA’s customers
  • Contribute to business development activities, including proposal and tender preparation, and
  • Liaise with colleagues across BVGA to define and deliver scopes of work, as well as liaising with key external partners.

You will also:

  • Develop new business and engage with existing and potential customers
  • Manage projects using our systems and processes
  • Present results at international conferences, and
  • Help develop the rest of the team in the area of wind farm asset management and engineering analysis.

This role is located in our new Glasgow city centre office, at the heart of the UK’s renewable energy industry. Our team regularly travels to meet clients and attend industry events in the UK and overseas.

The requirements

As well as understanding who we are and how we work, the ideal candidate will have:

  • An undergraduate degree in a numerical or engineering discipline
  • At least three years of professional experience, working in a technical capacity with operational wind farms, onshore or offshore
  • Consultancy experience in a relevant area (could be internal consultancy within a large organisation) would be advantageous
  • Experience in regularly managing the delivery of projects of at least three months duration involving multiple stakeholders
  • Experience of routinely analysing the performance of operational wind farms and undertaking engineering reviews of projects
  • Advanced Excel user experience. Experience in coding in high-level languages would be advantageous
  • Experience of regularly contributing to bids and external business development activities as part of team, including estimating costs for your own work
  • Knowledge of the major wind energy industry players and cost drivers
  • Experience of regularly presenting in your own areas of specialism
  • Skills in interpreting results and findings to a non-technical audience
  • Confidence and capability to write complete reports in areas of specialism, achieving clarity, accuracy and consistency
  • Ability to lead a team to deliver results
  • Skilled in persuading and influencing others
  • Willing and able to adjust to a rapidly changing work load with the ability to juggle multiple priorities
  • The ability to thrive in an intellectually challenging environment with a will to think in new ways and solve tough problems, and
  • The ability to engage constructively with the wider BVGA team.

Driving the offshore wind business forward

Specialism: Offshore wind industry business advisory services

Location: Cricklade, Wiltshire

You will lead our work in providing the market intelligence, technical insight and commercial knowledge to help our clients’ businesses succeed.
Our clients include start-up entrepreneurs with new ideas through to multi-national conglomerates looking to diversify into new sectors. Many have the practical and technical knowledge in their field but look to BVGA to deliver technical understanding, specific market intelligence or business insight to achieve strong commercial success. You will be expected to evolve and deliver our global strategy for business advisory services, developing new business opportunities, winning work and leading in its delivery.

As part of this role, you will:

  • Continue to drive the vision for business advisory services, both internally and externally to BVGA
  • Develop and launch new business ideas, communicate them to the client and win new work
  • Lead responses to international tenders
  • Create and develop relationships with a wide range of industry participants across the value chain

Play a key day to day role in delivering to clients, including in:

  • Helping established industries diversify into the renewable energy market
  • Market entry, customer value proposition and strategy development
  • Market forecasting and competitor landscape
  • Voice of customer and communications strategy
  • Industry introductions and investor relations
  • Mergers, acquisitions and tendering support
  • Project direct and manage a range of projects, simultaneously, providing industry-leading insight in your specific areas of expertise

You will also:

  • Support our internal learning activities and help grow the capability of our team
  • Present at international conferences, and
  • Have the opportunity to line manage and support the career development of a small team.

The requirements

  • Consultancy experience in a number of relevant areas (which could be internal consultancy within a large organisation)
  • Experience in managing the delivery of simultaneous large and small projects in a dynamic environment
  • Experience of leading bids and business development activities as part of team, including estimating costs for work
  • Broad knowledge of the major wind energy industry players and cost drivers
  • Skills in interpreting results and findings for a non-technical audience
  • Confidence and capability to prepare complete deliverables, achieving clarity, accuracy and consistency
  • Ability to lead a team to deliver results
  • Skilled in persuading and influencing others
  • Advanced Excel user skills would be desirable
  • Willing and able to adjust to a rapidly changing work load with the ability to juggle multiple priorities
  •  The ability to thrive in an intellectually challenging environment with a will to think in new ways and solve tough problems, and
