Patrick Whelan
Senior Consultant
Patrick Whelan is a Geography graduate, with a First Class Honours degree from Cardiff University. With a passion for climate change mitigation and sustainable development, he helps provide strategic advice to potential and existing renewable energy players to inform their business decisions.
Patrick applies his research and analytical skills to provide technical support for renewable energy projects. In addition, his strong communication skills allow him to build productive relationships with industry experts and draw from BVGA’s internal knowledge resource. This allows Patrick to deliver detailed and accurate industry insight which helps to shape client’s business decisions.
Patrick is adept at carrying out market assessment work to help new businesses enter the renewables market or to facilitate existing businesses develop their position. He uses BVGA’s expert knowledge, market intelligence tools and industry contacts to conduct market research, builds market forecasts and identifies potential business opportunities for clients to exploit.
He received a scholarship to Cardiff’s School of Geography and Planning and achieved the highest overall mark in his first year. He went on to complete an array of modules including: energy geographies, mobilities, contemporary issues in cities, the countryside, development geography, social geography, cultural geography, geographies of gender and research methods.
He has undertaken voluntary work and positions of responsibility throughout his education. By successfully juggling studies with part-time work, he has honed his organisational skills and is as happy working on his own initiative as well as part of a team.
