Overview
We were commissioned to determine the economic impact of Dogger Bank Wind Farm for all three phases of the project for both north-east England and the wider UK. BVGA was selected for its strong track record in assessing the economic impacts of offshore wind projects and its robust methodology developed for the sector.
Dogger Bank Wind Farm, a joint venture between SSE Renewables (SSER), Equinor and Vårgrønn, will have a total installed capacity of 3.6 GW, making it the UK’s and the world’s largest offshore wind farm once operational.
As a globally significant project, Dogger Bank Wind Farm presents a major opportunity to strengthen the UK’s offshore wind supply chain and generate socioeconomic benefits for both local and national economies.
The study involved:
- Supply chain narrative highlighting areas where UK and local contribution were particularly strong, informed by discussions with Dogger Banks tier 1 and tier 2 suppliers/
- Local and national content analysis of the proportion of expenditure retained regionally and nationally for each supply chain category.
- Economic impact analysis in terms of gross value added (GVA) and employment created in terms of full-time equivalent (FTE) years.
The key deliverable was a concise and visually rich report, presenting the total and annual economic impacts of Dogger Bank Wind Farm over time. It included infographics illustrating the distribution of FTEs, GVA, and supply chain expenditure. It also outlined five representative case studies profiling companies within the project’s supply chain.
The report established a credible and transparent evidence base demonstrating the scale of Dogger Bank Wind Farm’s economic contribution.
