Socioeconomic impacts and skills development study for offshore wind in India

Overview

We were commissioned by an international enabling foundation to deliver a socioeconomic impact and skills study for offshore wind in India. This study builds on previous work we have carried out in India, which outlined key success factors and provided practical recommendations to accelerate offshore wind development in the country.

BVGA was selected for its strong track record in emerging markets and deep expertise in India’s offshore wind sector. The work is being delivered in partnership with a local partner and includes:

  • A value chain assessment of India’s strengths within various cost categories of the offshore wind supply chain
  • A timeline of economic benefits across the value chain for Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, and rest of India including development, manufacturing, installation, operations, and decommissioning
  • An assessment of skills needs in comparison with training provision and recommendations based on interviews with established international suppliers and potential developers that would look to subcontract work in India or potentially invest in Indian manufacturing, and
  •  A report detailing the economic benefits, skills, expertise, and workforce required to support offshore wind in India.
