Overview
Projected offshore wind skills shortages prompted Ireland’s Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science to commissioned an offshore wind skills action plan for Ireland. This initiative followed our report, Building Our Potential: Ireland’s Offshore Wind Skills and Talent Needs.
We collaborated with industry on 33 critical job roles at risk of future shortages. For each, we assessed required qualification and experience. We also identified skills transfers from other sectors. Using employment demand projections, we then calculated demand across job types.
We also partnered with the Irish education sector to review current training provision. This included gathering enrolment data and qualification details for public programmes. By mapping supply against projected demand, we pinpointed areas with potential shortfalls.
We delivered targeted, time-sensitive recommendations to guide education and workforce development policies to meet offshore wind goals.
