Overview

Senior Consultant, BVG Associates (2024 to present)

Eleanor Young is a Senior Consultant at BVG Associates based in our Glasgow office. She is an Economics graduate, with a First-Class Honours degree from the University of Strathclyde. With a background in economic development, she specialised in supply chain analysis, economic impact, and policy development. Eleanor has delivered strategic advice on a range of energy transition issues, including local content, supply chain development, and community benefit. She has a drive to make a lasting and positive difference to the global energy transition. She enjoys building relationships with clients to solve challenges together.

Career experience

Research Economist, BiGGAR Economics (2022 to 2024)

Eleanor was responsible for various economic impact assessments for several wind developments. She led the delivery of socioeconomic assessments within the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process for a range of renewable energy proposals throughout the UK, including for wind energy projects and grid infrastructure. 

 

Recent key projects

Socioeconomic impacts and skills development study for offshore wind in India

Eleanor project managed a workforce study for offshore wind in India, commissioned by an international foundation. She led the assessment of socioeconomic impacts and skills gaps, identifying opportunities in related sectors and estimating the local economic and employment potential.

BlueFloat Energy: economic impact analysis of floating offshore wind projects in Scotland.

Eleanor modelled and assessed the economic impact of two representative floating offshore wind projects in Scotland under two supply chain scenarios. This included local content estimates and a detailed supply chain narrative.

Major offshore wind developer , socioeconomic impact assessment

Eleanor assessed the socioeconomic impact of a major offshore wind farm development in the UK, which, once completed, will be the largest fixed offshore wind farm in the world. As part of this assessment, she is also analysing the supply chain of the project and producing a narrative around localisation. .

A major offshore wind developer : UK Lease Auction Round 7 support

Eleanor supported the development of a bid for a Clean Industry Bonus application as part of the UK’s Lease Auction Round 7. This work required an in-depth understanding of the allocation framework and its criteria.

European transmission owner and operator : economic impact analysis of HVDC interconnector

Eleanor led the economic impact assessment of a proposed HVDC interconnector connecting a floating offshore wind farm with the electricity grids of two European countries

Ramboll: supply chain, infrastructure & workforce development analysis

Eleanor was a member of the BVGA team that developed three supply chain scenarios to cover the range of realistic outcomes from the development of 11 GW of offshore wind in New Jersey by 2040. This provided analysis for the development of a second offshore wind strategic plan for New Jersey.
