Third party due diligence for 20 MW wind turbine component design

Third party due diligence for 20 MW wind turbine component design

Overview

The National Composites Centre was developing designs for composite alternatives to steel and cast iron components.

It sought technical direction in a range of areas. We provided third party due diligence than included feedback on design bases and educated its team in relevant considerations and design drivers. We introduced practical considerations and shared relevant industry experience.

We provided technical direction, shared experience of composite alternatives and facilitated industry contact.

We also provided baseline component and process costs for the benefit analysis. This included feedback on the cost comparison process and comparator costs.

Our third party due diligence helped narrow the focus of project stages and secure the next tranche of funding.

Key challenges

  • Providing technical direction for novel composite designs
  • Ensuring design bases incorporated real-world considerations
  • Assessing cost implications and validating benefit analyses

Key impact

  • Delivered targeted feedback on design bases
  • Shared insights from past composite substitution projects
  • Provided baseline component and process costs
  • Helped narrow the project’s technical focus
